As Jesus sat facing the temple offering box, he watched how ⌊much⌋ money people put into it. Many rich people put in large amounts.A poor widow dropped in two small coins, worth less than a cent.
He called his disciples and said to them, “I can guarantee this truth: This poor widow has given more than all the others. All of them have given what they could spare. But she, in her poverty, has given everything she had to live on.” (Mark 12:41-44 GW)
It is easy to scorn the rich, but this story is about true giving and God's concern for the poor. Woe to those who take advantage of the poor! They will be judged (Mk 12:38-40).
This poor widow gave little yet gave everything she had. God sees and honors this type of giving. He also gave everything He had—giving His only Son for all humanity. ©Word-Strong_2014
