The Creative Power and Living Substance of Genuine Wisdom

The Creative Power and Living Substance of Genuine Wisdom

Genuine Wisdom

Wisdom—genuine wisdom—isn’t abstract thought. It’s not esoteric knowledge hidden from the ignorant masses. It is living and accessible for all. Wisdom precedes and promotes creativity.

Wisdom isn’t mere knowledge. We can define it as insight and understanding. This is where wisdom has creative power. A person with wisdom sees beyond knowing something to how that knowledge could be useful and inventive.

The idea of parallel universes is a popular possibility often featured in science fiction stories. The operative word is possibility. Since it can't be proven or disproven, people can hold on to this as some hope for life beyond our planet.

Of course, there are various theories on the creation of our earth. People gravitate towards any explanation other than creationism. Ultimately, it comes down to faith—what you choose to put your faith in.

A person needs to make a similar choice between the value and validity of wisdom. Is the origin of wisdom human or divine?

It’s each person’s choice as it ought to be. But here’s where I see irony. Human wisdom—whether based on science, philosophy, or psychology—is abstract, biased, and limited. God's wisdom is eternal and personal and practical.

Scripture

“The Lord already possessed me long ago, when his way began, before any of his works.

I was appointed from everlasting from the first, before the earth began.

I was beside him as a master craftsman.

Whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord.

Whoever sins against me harms himself. All those who hate me love death.” (Proverbs 8:22-23, 30a, 35-36 GW) [context— Proverbs 8:22-36 GW]

Simple Insights

The distinction between evolution and creationism is like the difference between human and godly wisdom. Creation was a personal act of an eternal being—God. Evolution is a human attempt to explain Creation.

The Bible speaks to this eternal and personal origin of creation and identifies the Lord Jesus as the Creator who spoke everything into existence (Genesis 1:3; John 1:1-4; Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:2; 11:3 GW).

Jesus is wisdom personified "as a master craftsman," as noted in the text above from Proverbs.

Choosing between godly wisdom and human wisdom can be a matter of life and death. In the account of Creation in Genesis, it says—

In the beginning God created heaven and earth…. Then God said, “Let there be light!” So there was light. (Gen 1:1, 3 GW)

We also find this echoed in the Book of Hebrews—

God made his Son responsible for everything. His Son is the one through whom God made the universe.

Faith convinces us that God created the world through his word. (Heb 1:2; 11:3 GW)

The second half of Proverbs 8 speaks of Wisdom’s eternal and creative power. Godly wisdom is infinite in depth because it originates from God.

Human wisdom is dependent and limited by what a person can determine within this life on earth. It is finite. It can be practical, but is often abstract and theoretical.

Godly wisdom is always practical in the truest sense. It originates with God, who is the Creator of all. God intends for His wisdom to benefit us in this life and prepare us for a life beyond this world.

Choosing between godly wisdom and human wisdom is a matter of life and death. As said above— “Whoever finds me finds life… All those who hate me love death.”

Choose wisely!

Reflection—

Human wisdom—whether based on science, philosophy, or psychology—is abstract, biased, and limited. God's wisdom is eternal, personal, and has creative power.

Prayer Focus—

Do you need wisdom? Ask God for it—for everyday life and for important decisions you need to make at any time. God promises to give us wisdom generously without shaming us when we trust in Him (James 1:5 GW).
